It sets up a world-view that hardly raises us above the station of animals competing for meagre resources in a hostile world. The chase after money fails to answer the question of how much is enough. Because money presents itself as an end to neediness it offers to buy us an endless stream of consumables that, precisely because they are consumable, deliver us into yet another needy state afterwards. Money is one of those more-ish things that makes the drinker thirsty as he drinks and the eater hungry as he eats.”
