No Readgrets Book Club: Now You See Us

Join us as we delve into the overlooked realities of migrant workers in Singapore—unpacking issues of labour rights, exploitation, and what true inclusivity and belonging should look like in our society.

About the Book

We are invisible: we clean your houses, we look after your children, we know your secrets.

Corazon, Angel and Donita have all come to Singapore to work for a living. The thing that unites them? Their labour must remain unseen. But when a friend is accused of murdering her employer, everything changes. The accused could be any of them; they all know the stories of women who were scapegoated or even executed for crimes they didn’t commit. Each woman has secrets to keep, yet they must gather every ounce of bravery, fearlessness and complete audacity to clear the name of one of their own. After all, no-one knows the secrets of Singapore’s elite quite like the women who work in their homes…

No Readgrets discussions are safe spaces to nurture conversations and connections over inspiring books and explorations beyond their pages.

This time, we will be discussing the novel, Now You See Us, by Balli Kaur Jaswal.

We’ll also have a short sharing on CritiCare Fund, a community-led fund dedicated specifically for migrant workers diagnosed with critical illnesses, as we unpack the themes of visibility, dignity, and solidarity explored in the novel.
