About the Book
Muhammad: Icon of Liberation is an English translation of the Jawi treatise originally published in 1957 on the eve of Malaya's independence from British rule. The work presents the Prophet Muhammad as a liberator whose mission encompassed the comprehensive liberation of humanity from all forms of domination and oppression. In this treatise, Muhammad Fadhlullah Suhaimi asserts that the Prophet stands among the few figures in history to have achieved genuine liberation for his people. Fadhlullah understands colonisation not merely as foreign political rule, but as a state of subjugation manifested in various aspects of a society. While the tract serves as a tribute to Prophet Muhammad as a universal icon of liberation, it is also a reminder that true liberation entails attaining autonomy in the moral, material, and spiritual dimensions of human life. This translated work, together with its accompanying essays and reflections, invites readers to reconsider the meaning of liberation and decolonisation in our times.
Copies of the book will be available for sale on the day of the event.
