This translation of the Quran is based on the work of the late Mufti of Penang, Al-Hafiz Ghulam Sarwar. The text of the Arabic is handwritten by the calligraphers at the Selangor Islamic Arts Complex and the illumination, based on motifs of mosques and flowers throughout the world, is also done by hand. The English text, which is clear, easy to read, and accurate, has been thoroughly edited by Duraid G. Fatouhi and proofread by the late Dr Uthman El-Muhammady.

About the translator
Ghulam Sarwar was born in December 1873 in Lahore, Pakistan. He memorised the Quran at age 11. A broad-ranging scholar, he studied at the University of Punjab and later Cambridge University. He served as the Mufti of Penang and also District Judge of Singapore in the 1920s. A contemporary and friend of another translator of the Quran, Abdullah Yusuf Ali, Ghulam Sarwar completed this translation while in London. He passed away in 1954.
