Perhaps this new translation of the Sejarah Melayu will remind us that we are not marooned and cut off from the deep culture and heritage of the wider Malay world. We are very much a part of it.

To wrap up the year, our six booksellers present the books we consider to be Wardah Books of the Year 2020

Reader, we have to read to children. We have to ensure that we raise children who read for enjoyment, for information, and for illumination. We do this by first reading to them.

For 2021, the theme of the book club is Islam and Other Civilisations. The aim is to understand and appreciate how wasaṭiyyah (balance), revelation, and the ‘aql inform and shape Muslim interactions with other civilisations.
